Claude vs Gemini for Google Ads (2026)
Claude beats Gemini for Google Ads management today — not because of model quality, but because Gemini doesn't support MCP yet. Here's what that means.
Claude is the better pick for Google Ads management in 2026 — and the reason is structural, not about model quality. Claude supports MCP (Model Context Protocol) clients, so it can connect to Google Ads through a hosted MCP server like NotFair. Gemini, the consumer app from Google, does not support MCP as of April 2026, so it cannot read or write to Google Ads the way Claude can. Despite Gemini being a Google product, this is the rare case where the non-Google assistant manages the Google product better.
This isn't a Gemini takedown. Gemini has real strengths — multimodal reasoning, deep Workspace integration, and Google's signal advantage. None of those help if you want to ask an AI to audit your Google Ads account today. MCP is the bridge, and Gemini hasn't crossed it yet.
What Claude can do for Google Ads (and Gemini can't yet)
- Audit accounts in natural language — "audit my account, find wasted spend" runs ~20 parallel GAQL queries through NotFair and returns a ranked action list.

- Multimodal — Gemini handles images, audio, and video natively. Useful for creative review and ad asset analysis pasted into the chat.
- Workspace integration — deep ties into Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and the broader Google Workspace surface area.
- Google Ads UI in the browser — Gemini in Chrome can summarize what you're seeing in the Google Ads UI, but that's screen-reading, not API access.
- Limited Workspace-side Ads features — Google has experimented with surfacing Ads insights inside Workspace, but the surface is much smaller than the full API.
Why MCP is the deciding factor
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets AI clients call external tools — Google Ads, GitHub, Slack, anything with an MCP server. Claude pioneered MCP support, and ChatGPT followed via Codex. Gemini's consumer app doesn't speak MCP yet, which means it can't invoke the tools that NotFair exposes.
Without MCP, Gemini can describe what Google Ads does, but it can't read your account, run a real audit, or apply a change. It's the difference between a research assistant who reads docs and a hands-on operator who actually pauses the underperforming campaign.
Will Gemini support MCP later?
Probably. MCP adoption has accelerated since 2025, and a Google AI assistant without MCP support is increasingly the exception. When Gemini adds MCP, the picture changes — Google's first-party ad signals plus MCP tooling would be a strong combination. Until then, Claude (or ChatGPT via Codex) is the practical choice for managing Google Ads with AI.
